The Fool on the Mountain LIVEWRITING EVENT
Livewriting began at the Muskoka Novel Marathon, July 16-19, 2010.
The unlikeliest pair in the post-tech world of the Fifth Millennium
HE is a paladin: a brilliant young champion of war, impeccable in character. But he has lost the duel of his life, is forsaken as a loser and a traitor by his home empire, and is separated from the man he loves… the man who defeated him, and might well go on to destroy that empire. Torn and despairing, he is considering ending it all.
SHE is an iconoclast: an elderly, eccentric sage living in a cave on a barren mountain slope, kept in food by local people and pilgrims alike who appreciate her uttered jewels of wisdom—or is it madness? Either way, she seems to have learned the secret of absolutely unshakable happiness, and all who speak with her come away somehow changed.
He needs living space. She needs a guy to do chores.
Maybe he’ll learn something.
Maybe they both will.
A collaborative weblit novel of love and enlightenment
by Shirley Meier and Karen Wehrstein.
After a good start at the Novel Marathon, we are going to continue livewriting this book using Googlewave GoogleDocs. PARTICIPATION IS STILL OPEN--you can be on the waves Docs, heckle, suggest ideas, ask questions, be asked questions, get involved in whatever diabolical schemes we might hatch for your involvement, or even just lurk. We need two things:
a) a valid email address attached to a Google identity so we can add you (send it in a PM on this site or an email to hearth at xplornet dot com)
b) a $10 or more PayPal payment, no longer a donation to the Muskoka Literacy Council (as the Novel Marathon is over) but to Shirley and me to split 50/50.
That payment does NOT apply if you are a patron in good standing (making monthly payments for premium content) of this site or of Shirley's (once she gets that set up.)
Use this button:
When you get the "special instructions to seller" blank, write in "For The Fool on the Mountain" or words to that effect. You will be added to the wavedocs (all of them!) forthwith. Visit www.googlewave.com, https://docs.google.com, and look for files with names that start with the acronym "TFOTM". If you just want to read/watch, you can scroll up or down. To communicate with us, use the message box (click on the chevron on the blue rectangle above and to the right of the text.) You'll quickly get used to how it works, and if it's a planned session so that we're around, we can instruct.
This book, when complete, is going to become a premium content item on both my and Shirley's sites. But your $10 will entitle you to a PDF download of the final version whenever we complete it. Post-novel-marathon schedule was kind of ad hoc for the remainder of the summer, which was a hectic summer, but now that's over we are considering settling into an afternoon each weekend. Well... maybe.
Those who were on the wave during the novel marathon had a blast, as did we. Hope you'll join us.

Three hours in, and it's a hilarious good time, especially with the addition of skype! Loving it! Everyone should join us.
*wails*
I'm gonna be shepherding goats and goat owners all weekend! Why, oh why must the two of the best things happening this summer be on the same weekend?!
Well, what are you doing Monday?
We'll be going all day - until 8. We'll pro-rate ya
Monday I'll be back to work,
Monday I'll be back to work, catching up on whatever I'm gonna get behind on this week due to Fair craziness. *Probably* I could catch the very tail end from 5pm to 8pm... probably... but that's the most I'd count on.
BTW, do y'all sleep at all during the marathon???
Hummm... I'll go look at the ol' budget spreadsheet and see if I got room for charity this week. I might just donate and then pop in and out when I can, maybe just a few minutes at the end of each day. When's the donation deadline?
I'm too old for all-nighters
...Shirley too, I guess. Though you never know, if we get really inspired it might happen.
Deadline for donations? End of the marathon, I guess. Just popping in is cool... though it can sometimes be hard to find other people in lengthy wave documents. We'll think about a system.
I'll send up a flare
Kallijas delicately kissed Sukala's knuckles, his free hand slowly sliding her motley-colored sleeve up her arm to reveal fine, sun-blessed skin.
"Oh, Kall..." Sukala whispered throatily, "That doesn't feel like the goats' kisses at -all-."
I figure an edit like that will get your attention.
Just dragging myself up off the floor
...from where I was rolling long enough to reply, I hope...
Uh, yeah, that would get our atten--HA HA HA HA HA HA [thud] roll roll...
Okay then, I'll see if I can
Okay then, I'll see if I can keep up with y'all in between goat/fair craziness.
"You've Got Mail!"
Thanks, cap!
You're on the wave. No reason why you can't start heckling early (though we aren't going to start the *real* writing until Fri night.)
Checked in, no problem - see
Checked in, no problem - see ya Friday =)
So, wait.
You're now a goatherdherd?
I am, although technically
I am, although technically the title is County Fair Goat Superintendent. I organize & run the meat goat and dairy goat shows for our fair.
This almost sounds like one of our
